The big news of the year (that most of you know already) is the MHRA is hosting the IMDRA’s West Coast Nationals once again. That’s right, the fastest of the fast are coming to sunny Southern California to take the first trophies of the year (and hopefully a few records too) in the IMDRA’s four race National Championship series. Come one come all April 15th, 16th and 17th, that’s right three days of ripping up the track. Be there!!

The MHRA’s championship series starts February 19th, a week away. So its time to get them cars finished up and looking pretty. IT’s TIME TO TEAR THEM UP!!!!

Get your cars ready early cause its coming fast.  Only two races left. Its gonna be good!!!

The 1^st annual ROAR West Coast Championship is in the books. The event went off without a hitch. Starting off on Friday it was test and tune day, right away record runs were being laid down. Some of the top runners on Friday included Chris Smith with his extreme car running 1.1’s. Josh Wood from Dallas Texas started off the day with his extreme car in the 1.2’s. Jimmy “Rainman” Schauer running 1.2’s with his extreme car as well. Jimmy also laid down a 1.38 with 3 cell E/TF rail. Mark Rollings laid down some mid 1.5’s with his N/TF rail. Mike self running his nitro funny car laid down a 1.72 and a few more 1.7 passes. Kurt Gawne from Chi-Town ran 1.7’s with his nitro funny car. Needless to say awesome numbers were being laid down all day.

On to Saturday’s qualifying starting off with Bracket Class it was long time racer making his return to the track Tommy Acosta with a very nice .006 reaction time to take the number one spot. Jim “Rainman” Schauer tales the number one spot in super gas with a very nice 1.72 second pass. In the 10.5 class it was none other than Tim Smith taking the number one spot with an incredible 1.72 second pass. On to them crazy Electric Funny cars it was long time crew chief Jim Skinner trying his hand at driving which he did in a big way. He took the number one spot with a 1.40!! In Electric Top Fuel it was none other them Jim “Rainman” Schauer blasting his way to the number one spot with a blistering 1.34. On to the noise makers known as Nitro Funny car it was Kurk Gawne from Chi-Town taking the number one spot with a very nice 1.74 second pass. Nitro Top Fuel was up next with Mark Rollings taking the number one spot with a 1.65 second pass. Last but not least in the Extreme class it was Chris Smith taking the number one spot with an insane 1.15 second pass!!!!   

After four rounds of qualifying it was on to eliminations. Starting off with Bracket it was number one qualifier Tommy Acosta making his way to the finals to meet up with Dean Butts. This race was over when the lights dropped as Dean Butts turns on the red bulb giving the win to Tommy. In Super Gas it was the number one qualifier Jimmy “Rainman” Schauer taking on Kenny Wilkins. This one was also over at the start as jimmy’s car does not move and Kenny runs straight down the track taking the win with a 1.84 second pass. In the 10.5 class it was once again number one qualifier Tim Smith making it to the finals to take on his teammate number two qualifier Gabe Hernandez. Tim cuts a light on Gabe and stays ahead to take the win with a 1.78. In the crazy Electric Funny car class it was number one qualifier Jim Skinner making it to the finals to take on Brian Boudakian. This one was over at the start as Jim’s car has a problem on the starting line and Brian screams down the track with a very nice 1.49 second pass. In the Electric Top Fuel class it was Mark Rollings and Chris Smith making their way to the finals where Chris takes the win right away as Mark turns on the red bulb. Chris runs a great 1.37 second pass. In the Nitro Funny car class it came down the Self brothers taking on one another where Mike Self takes the win over Junior Self with a nice 1.78 second pass. In Nitro Top Fuel it was none other than number one qualifier Mark Rollings making his way to the finals to take on first time nitro racer Kenny Wilkins coming from the number 7 spot. Kenny cuts a light on Mark but Mark comes around on the big end taking the win. To end the day it was none other than the Extreme Class were it was the number one qualifier Chris Smith taking on Jimmy “Rainman” Schauer. The light drop and before you know it jimmy’s going thru the traps and Chris is bouncing off the wall giving the win to jimmy. Jimmy ran a very impressive 1.23 second on his winning effort.

After the racing action came to a stop the buzz around the pits was still going on. A truly awesome event to start off the year. Many records were set, in fact every class set records as this was the first national event under the Roar association. Setting the bar high for the rest of the world to chase.

What a year what a year, The MHRA 2009 season is over. The final race of the ’09 season was did not disappoint. Getting right to the action in the Bracket class it was Randy Spearing taking the number one spot with an in-creatable .0005 reaction time. When it came down the the finals it was a battle of the Mitchell family. Father Mike Mitchell against daughter Taylor Mitchell, Taylor would pull off the win and take home the bragging rights. A champion was crowned in the 2-cell class. Chris Smith was crowned 2-cell champion after he took the top qualifier with a 1.5223 and won the race over Jim Schauer with a 1.6186. Next was the crazy Electric Funny Car class where Brain B. took the top qualifying spot with a 1.5353. Brian met up with Mark R. in the finals where Brian would take the win with a 1.6297 second pass. On the the Electric Top Fuel class it was Mike Smith taking the top spot with a 1.4034. When it came to the finals it was the number 2 qualifier Brian B. taking on number 3 qualifier Chris Smith. Chris Smith would take the win over Brian with a 1.6168 pass. The Extreme class was next where Chris Smith once again dominated with record setting runs. Chris was the number one qualifier and set both ends of the Extreme class record  with a blistering 1.2608 at 110.15mph. Chris would take the win when Nic Case could not make the call. Finally it was the noise making machines of the Nitro Top Fuel class. Mark Rollings took the number one spot with a 1.6748 second pass. Mark made it to the finals where he met up with his teammate Austin Larsen who came from the number 5 spot. Mark would grab the win with a 1.7199 to Austins slowing 1.9812. While Mark won the race Brian Boudakin took the championship for the second year in a row.

The 2009 season is over but the 2010 season is almost here.  Stay tuned form more exciting info on the 2010 season.

    December 12^th will be the MHRA’s final race of the 2009 season. With two championships on the line, it is sure to be an exciting race you don’t want to miss.    

 Another race is in the books folks. Race number eight of the ten race MHRA point’s series is over and the points are shaking up.

 It was a nice warm sunny southern California day. With the temperature hovering around 100 degrees, it made for some hot racing action.  Getting right to the action. First up was the Bracket class where new comer Marisa Mitchell fresh off here win from the September race took the number one qualifying spot with a .009 reaction time.  Marisa would make it all the way to the finals (for the second race in a row) to take on Gary Kirkpatrick. Gary would take the win running closer to his dial-in. In the Electric Funny Car class it was Mike Smith taking the number one spot with a very impressive 1.51 second pass.  Mark Rollings was the number two qualifier with a 1.59 second pass. Both Mike Smith and Mark Rollings would make it to the finals where Mark would take the win on a double red light and Mike hitting the wall. In the crazy fast Electric Top Fuel class it was the “Rainman” Jim Schauer taking the number one spot with a very quick 1.4097 second pass. In the finals it was Kenny W. going against Coty R. When the dust settled it was Coty R. taking the win over Kenny with a 1.43 second pass. Last but not least is the noise maker class known as Nitro Top Fuel. At the end of qualifying it was Mark Rollings taking the number one spot with a 1.73 second pass. As it came down to the final two it was Brain B. going against Erik Selesky. In a very close final it was Brian B. taking the win over Erik with a 1.84 second pass.

 With only two races left in the MHRA point series the point battles in a few classes are heating up. In the Bracket class it looks like Rosalie C. has a commanding lead over Gray Kirkpatrick. In the 2-cell class Chris Smith and Jim Schauer are only separated by 10 points. Look for that one to go down to the last race. Mark Rollings has locked the Championship title in the Electric Funny Car class. Brian B. has locked the championship in the Nitro Funny Car class. Brian B. has a 155 point lead over Jim Schauer in the Electric Top Fuel class. Brian B. also has a 40 point lead over Austin Hunsaker in the Nitro Top Fuel class. It’s coming down to the wire in a few classes with only two races left. The racing action is only going to heat up.

 The next race is November 21^st. Come one come all and watch the quickest and fastest Rc Drag Cars in the world duke it out for the MHRA championship titles. Be There!!!
